I only give this place two stars because the front desk staff was incredibly friendly. I waited for this appointment for weeks which isn’t the issue. I actually work for a neurosurgery clinic and understand specialists see a lot of patients. I have dealt and suffered with chronic back pain for years. I have given up so many times on treatment due to the way providers have treated me. I have been treated like a drug addict and a liar countless times so it’s easy to give up but I met an amazing primary care doctor who actually cares about me and my debilitating pain. So I went through all the motions with physical therapy and pain management. I did injections and epidurals as well as multiple ER visits in between and nothing helped me. The ER recommended Dr. Kiefer to me and once again, I had hope that maybe he was someone who cared and could help me. I was dead wrong. He maybe spent 5 minutes with me during my appointment and told me that there was nothing on my imaging that he could see that would cause me that much pain and told me to keep seeing pain management and physical therapy. I sat in the room after he left for a few minutes to give myself a moment to grieve and cry, realizing that none of these doctors actually cared about my pain or even took the time to maybe find out why it’s happening to help me and understanding that this pain is my life now. Just a bit of advice, if you’re looking for someone to help you, Dr. Kiefer is not it.

I had an appointment in 2022 because I had increased pain in my lower back. A Lady PA walks in and blurts out.."Are you ready to schedule the surgery!" Never explained the results of the New MRI I had, or what options were available to me. She went straight to wanting to schedule surgery.
I was told previously by Dr. Brooks who cared more about his patients than he did about making money for Baptist Health and himself. He told me straight-up a surgery would make my chronic pain worse at this point because there was a 50% chance it won't work I needed to put it off as long as I could walk. He also said shots in the back wouldn't help my condition. But because of clinic protocol referred me to pain clinic. I asked girl scheduling the appointment for pain clinic why he referred me there she said for shots. I declined the referral.
Dr. Brooks retired shortly after that.
A few years before that I saw Dr. Bean also Baptist Health Spine he told me same thing surgery would and could make me worse to put it off as long as possible.
He also suddenly retired.

Complete joke, if you can get an appointment just prepare for a reschedule. Dr. Jahni or however you spell it is the biggest medical joke I’ve seen. Been scheduling appointments over a year and some how once we’re 2 weeks from my appointment he gets called to “work in the hospital”. UK Neuro is the only way to go, hell UK anything Baptist is outdated and has the worst staff of any medical facility in Lexington.

I had an appointment for my bulging disc in my spine with Dr. Kiefer. His bedside manner is horrible. He took one look at me and already made a judgement. I'm still in major pain and can't walk. He spent all of 5 minutes with me, said he'd refer me to PT and walked out. He did take the time to state that , "I'm walking like an old man". I'm 43 years old and extremely frustrated with the lack of empathy I received. Due to COVID, I waited two months for the appointment in the hopes I could get some answers. He didn't want to spend any time to explain my back issues whatsoever. He said that the paralysis in my foot had nothing to do with my back. I then went to an Orthopedic Surgeon, who suggested I go to another Neurosurgeon since my leg not working is very connected to the issues in my back. I'm making everyone aware, I highly suggest you choose another doctor. Basically, I felt like he couldn't be bothered, he had more important patients. Baptist Health's motto of treating everyone with respect was not what I received from Dr. Kiefer. I hope that he takes this and learns that EVERYONE deserves more than 4 minutes at an appointment. On a good note, all the office staff was very polite and responded to my complaint within 5 minutes. It might be beneficial if Dr. Keifer follows their lead in the future.

While in the hospital they ordered 5 CT Scans 5 days in a row after I had a heart Catherization induced stroke. They said they were concerned about increased intercanial pressure, but I had no symptoms of this. They were so concerned with the imaging studies but they didn't look at me clinically or talk with me as I was alert and cognitizaint. I would look elsewhere outside the Baptist Health System for quality care particularly neurological care. These neurologists are individuals who couldn't make at a place like the University of Kentucky Medical Center where most of them were trained, but couldn't make the grade to stay there so they went to Baptist Health.

I saw Dr. Kiefer yesterday. He was very professional. He gave me a very thorough check up. Told me what was wrong and what I needed to do. I was very impressed. I was not impressed with having to wait so long in the waiting room. But, other than that you guys are top notch.

I absolutely love Dr. Brooks! He is the most kind, straight-forward and professional physician I have ever came in contact with. I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. I'm a single mother, my son was 7 at the time and Dr. Brooks even took the time to specially explain to my son, Cameron exactly what was going on in Mommy's head and what he was going to do to fix me. He performed a craniotomy. He, as well as his staff have been very kind and helpful through this entire process.

The doctors may be top notch but I wouldn't know because the rest of the staff is incompetent. "Misplaced" referrals, "incomplete" referrals, "Old scans" were the multiple excuses given to me for why they were not doing their jobs. While one of these can be excused they were all given to me as the "actual reason" why I could not get an appointment in the same conversation.
